Carl Schmitt’s critique of liberal democracy

Abstract

The present article analyzes Carl Schmitt's critique of XXth century liberal democracy, as one of the most interesting perspectives on its problematic aspects. Moving from a pessimistic evaluation of Weimar's Democratic Republic, the German theorist advances his proposal of a plebiscitary democracy, centered on a specific kind of decision and oriented to overcome the crisis of the political in contemporary societies.
