The initial reception of Levinas by the youthful Dussel: Eschatology, analectics, and people

Abstract

This article aims to analyse the initial reception of Levinas by the young Dussel through the categories of “eschatology”, “analectics” and “people”. Firstly, it elaborates on the essential aspects of the notion of “eschatology” in the intellectual production of the “pre-liberationist” Dussel, aiming to elucidate the origins of his engagement with the philosophy of the Lithuanian-French philosopher. Subsequently, it scrutinizes the central features of Dussel's liberationist assimilation of Levinasian “alterity” drawing from two foundational concepts in his early ethico-political oeuvre: “analectics” and “people”.
